Founded in 1959 by Hubert Schmidt, we’re proud to still be a family-owned and run business, with Hubert’s grandchildren now heading up the company.
That makes us nimble and gives us some great advantages, even as one of Europe’s leading leading made-to-measure home interiors manufacturers.
We have no shareholders to answer to, so we’re able to constantly focus on the success of our franchisees, not on our stock price.
It’s an approach that has delivered success for decades, and continues to change lives – those of our franchisees and our customers.
Arrival in the UK
Schmidt first appeared in the UK in 1986 as the brand grew globally. Originally sold through kitchen and interiors specialists, the first own-brand Schmidt showrooms opened their doors here in 2012.
Awareness – and orders! – have been growing steadily ever since. Schmidt is now well established as a supplier of top quality but sensibly priced interiors solutions, with strong brand loyalty among our customers.
That’s a reputation that gives franchisees a head-start on their exciting business journey.
We invest in state-of-the-art industrial equipment for made-to-measure production, and our skilled engineers have built high-tech factories that allow us to supply entirely customized high-quality interior solutions, at a very attractive price and with minimal delay.
These are just some of the reasons why we’re confident of reaching 100 showrooms in the UK in the next few years.

Schmidt has supported the SOS Children’s Villages charity since 2009, donating millions of pounds. T he charity supports children who have lost one or both parents, or who have families at risk.
As a family business ourselves, this is a cause that’s very dear to us and one we’re incredibly proud to support.
Sustainability and the environment
Sustainability and quality standards are a big part of our ethos. Long before it became fashionable for companies to talk about their environmental credentials, Schmidt was being recognised for the way we operate.
We’re proud to be the only manufacturer to achieve certification according to ISO 9001 (quality), ISO 14001 (environment), OHSAS 18001 (health and safety), energy management (ISO50001) and PEFC (Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification), as well as French furniture and environmental standards NF Ameublement and NF Environnement.

Business is booming at Schmidt Norwich – despite the pandemic and a series of lockdowns. Franchisee Scott Hardy: “We’ve learned some things from this that might be useful after the pandemic.”
Schmidt UK franchisees have enjoyed record-breaking performance, with August sales figures up 139% on August last year. Figures for September are even higher, with an increase of 146%.
