A sustainable business, in every sense of the word
With consumers becoming increasingly conscious of their environmental impact, and businesses placing more and more emphasis on their corporate social responsibility duties, it’s little surprise that sustainability has become one of the hottest topics in recent years.
However, we are proud to say that Schmidt has already been leading the way on this front for many years – not just to the benefit of the environment, but also to our franchisees who are able to confidently promote our sustainable credentials in order to give them the edge over the competition.
A commitment to sustainability both you and your customers can trust
Sustainability is and will continue to play a huge part in our business strategy moving forward. From our made-to-measure units right down to the type of glue we use, we are constantly working to refine our product range in order to reduce their environmental impact.
Our ultimate goal is to reduce this as much as possible, particularly in terms of greenhouse emissions. We are proud to say our efforts towards optimal and efficient energy performance have recently been awarded an ISO 50001 certification.
That means we are the first and only manufacturer to achieve certification according to ISO 9001 (quality), ISO 14001 (environment), OHSAS 18001 (health and safety), energy management (ISO 50001) and PEFC (Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification), as well as French furniture and environmental standards NF Ameublement and NF Environnement.
As part of our sustainable development policy, Schmidt:
- Promotes the sustainable management of forests.
- Has achieved a 50% reduction in waste per package produced at its manufacturing facilities since 2006.
- Sends zero waste to landfill – all waste is recycled.
- Uses carbon offsetting to compensate for any carbon generated by waste transport.
- Has reduced solvent emissions in finishing workshops by 50% to undercut EU emissions standards by half.
- Has removed any carcinogens from the production process – protecting customers, franchisees and workers.
- Uses solar panels at our newest production site to save five tonnes of CO2 per year
- Harvests one million litres of rainwater annually.
When choosing to work with Schmidt, you can be confident our commitment to this incredibly important issue is unwavering and will always be a core focus for us.
Meet our 100% recycled product range
In 2021 we launched the Origin collection – which is made from 100% recycled wood carcasses and front panels – perfectly illustrating our ongoing commitment to becoming evermore environmentally friendly and ethical.
This collection really makes a difference when it comes to helping protect the environment and provides consumers with a genuine green choice when deciding on which supplier to trust with their all-important home renovations.
As part of your franchisee training, you will be fully educated on our sustainable policies and ranges, equipping you with the knowledge to share the strides Schmidt are making in this area with your customers.
Natural materials
We only use materials and panels with a low level of formaldehyde.
100% recyclable
We aim to use tough, high-quality, entirely renewable materials. Whenever possible, waste is recycled to ensure material repurposing.
Sustainable wood
The Schmidt brand has achieved Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), meaning we source our wood from sustainably managed forests.
